Nelson Bay brothers, Blake and Joel Erickson will celebrate a double milestone when they take on Singleton at Rose Point Park on Saturday.
Blake, 21 years will be playing his 100th game for the club whilst Joel, 24 years will be playing his 50th game.
Blake’s 99 games have consisted of 80 senior games and 19 Under 18’s games, whilst Joel’s have all been in the seniors.
The two brothers started their football careers at the age of five with Corowa Rutherglen and progressed through the junior ranks. Each weekend they followed the local senior football team and for two years umpired both the U18’s and reserve games. (I think their Dad made them do that).
Blake moved with his family to Nelson Bay in 2007 and linked up with the junior club before debuting with the seniors in 2009 as a 16 year old. Blake is a highly skilled player which earned him selection in Northern Heat TPP sides in U15, U16 & U18. He has also represented the Black Diamond AFL for the past three years and last season played several matches for the Sydney Swans reserves as a top-up player.
Joel moved to Nelson Bay in 2011 and he immediately became an important member of the senior side with his commitment to the hard ball, second efforts and run off the back line.
The brothers reached the pinnacle together last year when they were members of Nelson Bay’s First Division Premiership side.
This year they will be both be key players in the clubs return to the Wilson Security Black Diamond Cup competition.
