David Wood – Rising Star

Nelson Bay’s, David Wood is the BDAFL Rising Star nominee for Round 13. The third nomination from Nelson Bay Marlins.

The 17 year old began playing in 2004 for the Nelson Bay Marlins Junior Club. During his time as a junior he participated in 11 Grand Finals, winning in 9 of those. He currently holds the record for most games played by a Nelson Bay Junior. He has won several awards since he began including 2 Best & Fairest awards. In 2006 Davey was awarded the AFL Newcastle Juniors – Nelson Bay Most Valuable Player.

“Davey” debuted in the Senior side in 2013 but became an official Senior this year. He has gained more and more confidence each game and has had an outstanding year. Wood’s speed, clean skills and his long kicking have made him a great addition on the wing in the Marlins Black Diamond Cup side.

Against Singleton in Round 13 he was able to raise the bar even higher, with his nonstop run, accurate kicking and his grown confidence saw him putting on some huge tackles, all this playing a big role in the clubs 70 point win.

Wood joins the Rymer brothers, Jayden & Jarryd as nominations for this years award.
